Frequently asked questions

Clear answers to the questions we hear most.

Sessions and structure

Do I need to know what to book?

No. All new clients begin with a First Session.

For follow-up sessions, you can choose the session focus when booking. That gives the session a clear starting point while leaving room to adapt the work to what you need on the day.

What should I expect from a first session?

First sessions are booked as a 90-minute slot to allow time for proper assessment and response. We will discuss your background, identify what is relevant, and set a clear direction before the hands-on work begins.

The aim is not simply to give you time on the table, but to do something useful with it.

How often should I come?

That depends on your context and what you are working on. Some people come occasionally for recovery or reset, while others come more regularly during periods of higher load. We can discuss this after a session if it would be helpful.

Style and intensity

Is this a relaxation massage?

It can be deeply relaxing, but the work goes beyond relaxation alone. Sessions are tailored to what you need on the day. For some people, that means slowing down and switching off. For others, it means relieving stubborn tension, improving movement, supporting recovery, or preparing for demanding training or work. The aim is to give you the treatment that will be most useful on the day.

How intense is a session? How will I feel after?

Some sessions involve more targeted or deeper work, while others are gentler and more settling. The focus is always on effectiveness rather than force, and pressure is adjusted throughout based on your feedback and preference.

Depending on the session, you may leave feeling more energised or more deeply relaxed, but not flattened.

Will I be sore afterwards?

Most people leave feeling better, lighter and more at ease in their body. After more focused work, it is possible to feel a little tender for a day or two, in the same way you might after effective physical treatment or training. This is usually mild and short-lived. If you prefer a gentler approach, just say so and we will work within it.

Practicalities

What should I wear?

Wear whatever is comfortable to arrive in. For the session, you can undress to your level of comfort. Most clients remove clothing down to their underwear, as this allows effective work across common areas of tension.

Towels are used throughout for professional draping at all times. Oil is used during the work, so it is best not to wear delicate or expensive clothing underneath.

Can I ask for quiet, or more guidance?

Yes. Some clients prefer silence, while others like more feedback and cues. Tell me what helps you and I will adapt.

Is tipping expected?

No. The session price is the full price.

Professional standards

Are you fully insured?

Yes. Essential Studio is fully insured, with up to £6,000,000 of cover for the work offered here, including body massage, deep tissue massage and myofascial release.

What certification do you have?

I hold an ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Massage Therapy, with additional training in Deep Tissue Massage and Myofascial Release.

I also hold a Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work qualification and am a member of the Federation of Holistic Therapists.

Health and boundaries

Is this medical treatment?

No. I do not diagnose medical conditions. The work is bodywork focused on recovery, tension relief and movement. If you have a medical concern or are under active treatment, please check first.

Are there times I should not book?

If you have a fever, a contagious illness, a recent acute injury, or anything you are unsure about, contact me before booking so we can decide what is appropriate.

Logistics

What is your cancellation and rescheduling policy?

You can reschedule or cancel free of charge up to 48 hours before your session.

Requests within 48 hours are handled at Essential Studio's discretion. When accepted, they are refunded as studio credit so you can rebook another session.

Where is the studio located?

The studio is based in Kentish Town (NW5), London. Full address details are provided after booking.

Is there a private bathroom or shower I can use?

Yes. Essential Studio has a private bathroom and shower for client use. If you need a few minutes before or after your session, that is absolutely fine.

Is there parking nearby?

There are also a few pay-to-park options within a couple of minutes' walk. As always, please check local signage before leaving your car.
